How to care for your sheets so the colors last

Cold water, a mild detergent, and drying in the shade. Seven simple habits that keep your sheets bright and soft for longer.

How to care for your sheets so the colors last

Sheets are used every night and washed many times, so the way you wash them decides how long the colors and softness last. Here are simple habits you can start today.

1. Wash before the first use

The first wash removes anything left from production and makes the fabric feel softer.

2. Use cold or lukewarm water

Hot water makes colors fade faster. Regular tap water is enough to get sheets clean.

3. Choose a mild detergent and skip the bleach

Bleach and harsh detergents damage both the color and the fibers. Measure the detergent as the package says.

4. Separate dark and light colors

This matters most in the first few washes, so colors do not transfer to other fabrics.

5. Do not soak for too long

Fifteen to thirty minutes is enough. Soaking overnight makes colors run more easily.

6. Dry in the shade, inside out

Long hours in direct sun can fade the colors. Turn the sheet inside out to dry and take it down as soon as it is dry.

7. Keep two or three sets in rotation

Rotating sets means each one is washed less often, so the colors and fabric last longer. Change your sheets once a week to keep the bedroom fresh.
